What is not covered
Normal wear and tear on any bike: tires, tubes, chains, brake pads, grips, bar tape, saddles, spokes, and paint or cosmetic finish. Nor is crash and impact damage, improper assembly or adjustment, lack of maintenance, modifications, or incompatible parts. Shop labour is the rider’s responsibility under either tier. RAW finish steel frames are not covered against rust — that is the finish behaving as intended.

Fit

Find your size

Sizes overlap on purpose. Between two, the smaller rides more upright and the larger stretches you out. Every size shares a 435mm chain stay, a 45mm fork offset and a 68mm bottom bracket drop, so the handling stays consistent across the range, while the crank, stem and bar width all step up with the frame. State also publish an inseam range per size, from 29 to 31 inches on the extra small up to 33 to 34 inches on the large.

6061 All-Road Overview

The State Bicycle Co. 6061 All-Road in Dune Tan is a 6061 aluminium gravel bike with a full carbon fork, thru axles front and rear, a 1x11 drivetrain and hydro mechanical disc brakes, at $1,399.99. It weighs 20 lb 15 oz on an extra small with 700c wheels.

The wheel size is a choice you make at checkout, and it changes what the bike is. Pick 700c and it comes on Vittoria Terreno Zero 38c tires, a fast file tread for pavement and hardpack. Pick 650b and it comes on Terreno Dry 47c knobbies, which trade some rolling speed for grip and float on loose ground. Both wheel sets are tubeless capable and both use the same thru axles, so a second set drops straight in later.

The drivetrain is State’s own All-Road 1, a single 42T ring with an 11 to 42T cassette and a clutch rear derailleur to stop the chain slapping on rough ground. Skip it if you want a front derailleur or a suspension frame.

Standards you can build on

Every interface on this bike is an established size. 31.6mm seatpost, 31.8mm bar clamp, 68mm English threaded bottom bracket, a 110 BCD chainring, 12x100 front and 12x142 rear thru axles, flat mount disc brakes on 6 bolt rotors, and tubeless capable rims in both wheel sizes. You can service this bike with parts anyone stocks.

ALUMINIUM FRAME, CARBON FORK

The frame is 6061 aluminium with thru axle dropouts on 142mm rear spacing, and the fork is full carbon with a 12mm thru axle on 100mm front spacing. Thru axles clamp the wheel through the hub rather than sitting in an open slot, which is what keeps a disc rotor lined up in its caliper when you are riding rough ground. Frames weigh 4 lb on an extra small up to 4 lb 7 oz on a large, and the fork is 15.9 oz in every size.

State build the fork as one piece with a hollow formed 1.5 inch crown, flat mount disc tabs and a cable cradle moulded into the carbon rather than bolted on. The brakes are State’s own hydro mechanical calipers, which run a normal brake cable to a hydraulic piston at the caliper, on 160mm six bolt rotors front and rear.

TWO WHEEL SIZES, ONE BIKE

Wheel Set is an option at checkout, not an upgrade with a price on it. The 700c wheel set comes on Vittoria Terreno Zero 38c tires, a fast rolling file tread that suits pavement, hardpack and dry gravel. The 650b wheel set comes on Vittoria Terreno Dry 47c knobbies, a smaller rim carrying a much bigger tire, which floats better on loose surfaces and takes more of the edge off.

Both wheel sets are 24mm deep aluminium with a 19mm internal width, 28 hole double wall and tubeless capable, on sealed bearing thru axle hubs. State list the 700c build at 20 lb 15 oz to 21 lb 6 oz across the sizes and the 650b build at 21 lb 8 oz to 21 lb 15 oz. Because the axles and rotor mounts are identical, a second set bolts straight in.

Questions before buying

Should I choose the 650b or the 700c wheel set?

Pick 700c if most of your miles are pavement, hardpack and dry gravel. It comes on Vittoria Terreno Zero 38c tires, a fast file tread, and State list that build about nine ounces lighter. Pick 650b if the ground is loose, rocky or soft. It comes on Terreno Dry 47c knobbies, a smaller rim carrying a much bigger tire. Both are tubeless capable and both use the same thru axles, so a second set bolts in later.

What is a hydro mechanical brake?

It is a hydraulic caliper operated by a normal brake cable. The lever and cable are the same as any mechanical setup, so they are easy to service anywhere, but the piston in the caliper is hydraulic, which gives more stopping power than a cable pulling a pad directly. State fit their own calipers on 160mm six bolt rotors front and rear.

How much does the 6061 All-Road weigh?

State list 20 lb 15 oz for an extra small on 700c wheels, rising to 21 lb 6 oz on a large. The same sizes on 650b run 21 lb 8 oz to 21 lb 15 oz. Frames alone are 4 lb to 4 lb 7 oz and the carbon fork is 15.9 oz in every size.

What is the widest tire that fits?

State list 45c as the clearance on 700c. On 650b their spec guide says 2.2 inch while their product page says 2.1 inch, and that same page also quotes 53c. Riders have fitted up to 2.3 inch on 650b, but fitment varies with the tire brand and the wheel. It ships on 38c on 700c and 47c on 650b.

Does it come with pedals?

No. State list pedals as not included on this bike, so budget for a pair. Brakes, rotors, the wheel set you choose and its tires are all included and fitted.

What gearing does it have?

A single 42T chainring on a 110 BCD spider with an 11 to 42T eleven speed cassette, so there is no front derailleur to set up. The rear derailleur is State’s own All-Road 1 version 2.0 with an internally adjustable clutch, which holds chain tension so the chain does not slap the frame on rough ground.

What size should I get?

State list the 48cm extra small for riders 5 foot 3 to 5 foot 7, the 51cm small for 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 10, the 54cm medium for 5 foot 9 to 6 foot 1, and the 58cm large for 6 foot to 6 foot 3. Sizes overlap on purpose. Between two, the smaller rides more upright and the larger stretches you out.
