Birch Hunters Direwolf
Twelve Miles Past the Trailhead. Full Pack on the Rack. Battery to Spare.
"The treeline stops most riders. It is your starting point."
The Birch Direwolf is not a trail bike with a motor bolted on. It is a ground-up hunting electric fat tire bike engineered for the places maps do not cover. A 1000W BAFANG mid-drive motor sits at the cranks where it belongs, driving 160Nm of torque through your gears and into terrain that would stop anything else cold.
The 1200Wh battery is one of the largest ever put on a production hunting e-bike. That kind of capacity changes your planning. Not "how far can I go" but "how much can I carry." A 400 lb payload capacity means the Birch Direwolf electric hunting bike hauls you, your pack, and your harvest farther back in than you have ever pushed before.
"Mid-drive motors earn their place on hunting bikes because of where the weight sits and how it handles climbs. Hub motors push from the rear axle. Mid-drives work through the drivetrain and multiply torque through the gears. On a steep, loose backcountry grade, that difference is not subtle. The BAFANG 1000W at 160Nm is the motor you want when the hillside does not care about your timeline."
BUILT FOR RIDERS WHO
- You have spotted animals a mile into the backcountry and spent years thinking "I will never get there quietly"
- You are tired of packing in light because packing out heavy is not an option on foot
- You want to cover more ground before first light than most hunters cover in a full morning
- You have stood over a dressed buck at dusk, three miles from the truck, doing the math on what you can carry and what you have to leave
THE MOTOR IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE
And That Changes Every Climb
Hub-drive motors push. Mid-drive motors pull through the gears. That distinction matters the moment the grade tilts past comfortable and the terrain turns from trail to obstacle. The BAFANG mid-drive sits at the bottom bracket where it shifts weight to the center of the bike and feeds every watt through your existing drivetrain. Drop into a lower gear on a nasty climb and the motor multiplies with you. That is 160Nm of torque working smarter, not just harder.
Pair that with 26" x 4" puncture-resistant fat tires and the Direwolf's footprint becomes a platform. Deep snow, loose shale, sandy creek beds, early-season mud — four inches of rubber eating the variable while the mid-drive pushes you through it.
ONE CHARGE. ALL HUNT.
1200Wh — One of the Largest Hunting E-Bike Batteries Available
Most hunting e-bikes top out at 750 to 960Wh. The Direwolf ships with 1200Wh. That extra capacity is not a spec sheet number. It is the difference between turning back at mile 6 and continuing to mile 10. It is the confidence to push deeper on opening morning knowing the ride home is covered.
The 1200Wh battery combined with the 1000W BAFANG mid-drive means efficiency does not have to be a tradeoff. Ride in a lower assist mode on the way in and the range stretches further. Need max power to haul out? The battery handles it without the range anxiety that comes with smaller packs. This is the battery size the backcountry actually demands.
SEE IT IN ACTION
WHY THIS BUILD MATTERS
The backcountry does not grade on effort. It grades on whether you make it back. Here is why the Direwolf's engineering choices matter when the terrain gets serious.
Mid-Drive Multiplies Your Gears
A hub motor gives you one gear ratio at the wheel. A mid-drive runs through your cassette and changes that ratio every time you shift. On a 30 percent grade with 300 lbs of load, gear multiplication is what keeps you moving. That is the engineering case for mid-drive on a hunting e-bike.
1200Wh Changes Your Range Planning
More capacity means more conservative riding is possible at the same distance. Ride in eco on the way in. Have full assist available for the loaded haul out. The 1200Wh battery gives you that headroom when it counts.
400 lb Payload Is a Packing Decision
A dressed deer plus your gear and a standard rider typically runs 400 to 500 lbs combined. The Direwolf's payload capacity means the bike handles that load without compromising the frame or handling on the way out.

Is the Birch Direwolf good for steep backcountry terrain?
Yes. The 1000W BAFANG mid-drive motor with 160Nm of torque is built for serious elevation. Mid-drive motors work through your gears, which means the harder the climb, the more you can use your drivetrain to help the motor. On steep, loose backcountry grades this combination outperforms hub-drive systems in the same class.
How far can the Birch Direwolf go on a single charge?
Up to 85 miles on pedal assist and 45 miles on throttle only. The 1200Wh battery is one of the largest available on a production hunting e-bike. Real-world range depends on terrain, assist level, and total load — but even fully loaded on throttle, 45 miles covers most backcountry hunting loops with margin.
Can the Direwolf carry a full deer harvest?
The 400 lb payload capacity is designed for exactly that use case. A dressed deer plus your gear and a standard rider typically falls within that window. Use a proper game carrier or cargo system rated for the load and secure everything before riding.
What is the difference between a mid-drive and hub-drive hunting e-bike?
Hub motors sit in the wheel and push from one fixed gear ratio. Mid-drive motors sit at the cranks and work through your entire cassette. On technical terrain with a load, mid-drive gives you the ability to drop gears and multiply torque. For backcountry hunting with hills, this is a meaningful advantage.
Does the Direwolf come in camo?
Yes. The Direwolf is available in three colorways: Badlands Camo, Forest Camo, and Desert Tan. Select your color above at checkout.
