Deep Indigo Drivetrain Close-up

An Analog Masterpiece

This isn't about plastic click-shifters. This is about the tactile connection between rider and machine. Classic Sunrace downtube shifting is not only more robust and easier to maintain, it keeps your handlebars clean and your focus on the road ahead.

Sense the mechanical honesty of every shift as you glide through the 8-speed drivetrain. It is a refined, satisfying experience for the rider who prefers a more involved journey.

Timeless Aesthetic

Every detail of the Deep Indigo edition is a nod to classic cycling heritage. See the deep, lustrous shine of the paint, reminiscent of vintage sports cars. Notice how it’s perfectly complemented by the gleam of polished silver components and white bar tape.

WHY THIS BUILD MATTERS

8-Speed Dynamic Range

The 11-28T cassette paired with a 44T chainring provides explosive off-the-line speed while still giving you the climbing gears to conquer technical inclines.

Double-Butted Resilience

We use double-butted 4130 Chromoly, which is thicker at the joints and thinner in the center. This results in a frame that is 20% lighter than hi-ten steel.

Expedition Ready

This isn't a fair-weather bike. With integrated mounts and clearance for up to 32c tires, it transforms easily into a high-speed touring rig.

Frequently Asked Questions
How durable is the analog downtube shifter?

Extremely. It eliminates complex indexing springs found in handlebar shifters, making it virtually indestructible and easy to service anywhere in the world.

Does this model require specific tools for maintenance?

No. We prioritize standard metric hardware, allowing you to maintain your State Bicycle Co. 4130 Road with a simple multi-tool and basic mechanical knowledge.

How many gears does the 4130 Road have?

It features an 8-speed cassette. This provides a wide range of resistance settings to help you maintain a steady cadence regardless of terrain or wind conditions.

Can I upgrade to different tires later?

Yes. The frame and fork clearance allow for tires up to 32c wide. You can swap the stock 28c tires for a wider profile if you prefer more comfort and traction.

Is the 4130 Road suitable for long group rides?

Absolutely. The lightweight steel frame and efficient 8-speed range allow you to maintain pace with modern performance groups while looking significantly better than them.

How do I validate my 5-year frame warranty?

To ensure safety and peak mechanical performance, professional assembly by a certified mechanic is required. Keep your assembly receipt to validate the warranty with State Bicycle Co.

LOVE MY NEW BIKE!

This is my first ever road bike. Im an athlete and avid hiker, runner, and swimmer. This thing gets me to places fast. And I look stylish doing it. It's easy to adjust. A local big mechanic helped me set it up and gave me riding tips and advice. The State Bicycle Team has thus far been super responsive to my concerns thus far. I feel like I'm a Copenhagen woman. I'm excited to get going around New England with this baby! :)

Great Value for the Price

This bike is easily comparable to other, similar examples on the market that would cost $1000. Very high quality and also lightweight.

Great Bike - Classic Feel

For the price, this bike is wonderful. Classic and simple design, especially the downtube shifter, which I really enjoy and also makes for less cables on the handlebars. I needed a new Shifter etc and State sent me replacements for free and reimbursed me for the install expense, which was good on them. I definitely recommend this bike.

Cheap Thrill

I bought this bike a year ago to commute to work (10 miles). Since then I have ridden it on long group rides (50-70 miles) on the weekends and completed the MS150. Highly recommend.

Needed tweeks but she freaks

Great commuter and get around bike. Bought the damaged clearance model which needed a little love. But for the price, it's been a gem. Decent engagement on wheels, light weight for all steel, fun and fast play in geometry.

Personal preference: i would recommend upgrading the tires, chain, cassette and derailleur for a stronger performance otherwise I have no real complaints 👌

Great bike for a great price

I have been looking for a “retro” steel bike for some time now. I currently own 2 carbon bikes and was looking back to my 1970’s cycling roots at a steel frame bike. I found State Bike Co. I now have a steel bike with updated modern components without the steep price of a retro bike. Bike rides and feels great, 8 sp. is ample enough, I would recommend looking into these bikes.

4130 Road 8 - Speed

Beautiful bike, I get a ton of compliments rides smooth! Assembled professionally. Had for two weeks now and rode everyday no issues. Grab water bottle holder and possibly a seat cushion other that that absolutely happy with my purchase. I previously had a fixed geared bike this was my upgrade and it’s a completely different and better experience.

Best for those seeking the elegance of simplicity.

I’ve ridden cheap bikes and bikes that cost thousands. I am commuting my son to school daily and just wanted to return to the basics while intersecting with quality.

I think this strikes the perfect balance. I’d consider dinging State a review star because I put it together myself and it seems like it’s impossible to get it delivered without the wheels being whacked out of true.

So I did still have to make the trip to the bike shop. Just a slight hassle. But I can’t say I was shocked given the consistency of that comment in the reviews.

Otherwise, really happy to be back on two wheels without all the space age gadgets and additional things that break.

Not too shabby...not too shabby at all!!

I'm a bike nerd (who at times is a bike snob) and I can tell you that this is a nice one. It has a nice vintage look to it, while having modern bits. The bits aren't high end, but they certainly aren't crap either. This is worth 600 bucks all day! I swapped the bars for straight bars and have been loving on mine for a year now.

Great Bicycle - Americana 4130 8-Speed!!!!

Just received my new 4130 Americana 8-speed back from being assembled & tuned at The Bicycle Doctor and man I am impressed!

The bicycle is very responsive, fit and finish are superb and the index shifter is a delight and works flawlessly. In addition, it looks gorgeous with the upgraded saddle, Selle Italia Flite 1990 White, and the Continental GatorSkins tires I had fitted make the bicycle corner like it’s on rails. I highly recommend the 4130 geared line of bicycles from SBC, great job guys!

Love the 4130 8 speed

Have struggled with big box store floor models and used vintage Schwinns for too long. This bike has an awesome classic style and rides like a dream. The only reason I held back from 5 stars is that the staged shifting has just enough wiggle room/ play that the chain occasionally wants to jump up the gear set. I've found that you have to shift to the click, but then pull the lever back up to the top of that stage to keep the chain from jumping.

Love the bike for my daily commute and running around Denver on my days off. Will definitely recommend state bikes in the future

4130 Road Bike Hunter Green

So far so good, I've done 20 mile rides in comfort, very strong frame. I get compliments on this bike and paint job on the daily.

I'm definitely going to get this properly set up soon and upgrade the tubes, possibly tires as they're just ok. The quality of the frame and parts overall is great. I went back and forth on this bike for a long time and I'm glad I finally made the purchase.

Fun road bike for a good price

I’ve had my 4130 Road Bike for a few months now and it’s overall been a great bike. It’s perfect for the daily commute and an introduction to road cycling. Took it into San Francisco for the Golden Gate to Sausalito ride, and while it’s not ideal for extreme hills it looks great and is lots of fun and lightweight. Had an issue with the rear wheel spokes popping but customer service was very attentive and got it resolved quickly. Overall very satisfied, especially at this price.

4130 Road Hunter Green

This is my first bike from State Bicycle Co. and I couldn’t be happier. This bike is amazing. First of all, you can’t take your eyes off of it. It looks beautiful, especially the hunter green frame with the brown accent bar tape. Second, this bike rides like a dream. Effortlessly fast and smooth as silk. I can take it out for a spin on the city streets, or out on the road for a full day ride. The down tube shifter is a really cool feature, provides smooth, easy shifting with a sleek, classic look. The simplicity is another nice aspect to this bike, the 8 gears are a perfect range for taking on all types of hills. The assembly was easy as well. I’m 5’10” and went with the 55 cm size frame and it’s a great fit for me. I would recommend this bike to anyone.

Nice, beautiful bike

I am in love with my new bike and am excited to use it to commute to work throughout the warmer months of the year. The only thing I'm unhappy with is, the brake cable arrived too short. The tech who assembled my bike was able to add an extention at an additional cost, but advised me that it was unsafe the way it was packaged. Other than that, it's a great bicycle!

All Smiles

What can I say about this bike that hasn’t already been said? It rides great and looks fantastic. It isn’t the lightest or fastest thing out there, but you’d be hard-pressed to find something more fun on the street.

The bike was well-packed and I had it professionally assembled by a local shop. I also upgraded the tires, brake pads, and saddle immediately based on other reviews. You don’t need to do this, but there is a noticeable difference when you do. If you’re on pothole-riddled city streets with occasional dirt/gravel paths, the stock tires might not hold up. I went with 28C treaded city/hybrid tires.

At 6’6” with a 36” inseam I’m pretty much maxed out on the 62cm frame. The riding position is fairly aggressive on this bike, but you can flip the stem to get a little bit of rise if you need it (I did this and it greatly improved comfort around town).

The components are not top of the line but they feel solid. The downtube shifter is an awesome touch and has a very pleasing action. It’s a simple mechanism and should be easy to maintain.

There are also some elegant details on this bike which you typically don’t find at this price. The machined cranks are a thing of beauty. The paint scheme is just interesting enough for a second glance without screaming “look at me.” Overall, it is an excellent package and I can’t wait to put more miles on this thing.
