Magicycle Deer Overview
The Magicycle Deer is the full suspension step through fat tire electric bike Magicycle calls its first SUV. A 750W geared hub motor peaks at 1500W with 100Nm of torque, a 52V 20Ah battery is good for up to 100 miles by Magicycle’s estimate, and a hydraulic lockout fork works with a coil shock at the back.
It is the simpler Deer. A 12 magnet cadence sensor drives 7 levels of assist, a half twist throttle covers the rest, and a Shimano 7 speed handles the pedalling. One frame, 20 inch wheels, for riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2, rated to carry 450 lb.
Built to take the hit
A hydraulic lockout fork with 80mm of travel at the front and a coil shock at the back, on 20 x 4 inch fat tires. Lock the fork out for pavement, open it for the trail. 180mm hydraulic disc brakes at both ends, with a motor cutoff in the levers.
A 16 inch 6061 aluminium step through frame, a colour display with a USB port, and integrated front and brake lights. Magicycle backs the frame, battery, motor, controller and display for two years.
FULL SUSPENSION, FRONT AND REAR
A fat tire takes the sting out of small stuff on its own. It does nothing for a root, a kerb or a rutted fire road, which is where a rigid fat bike beats you up.
The Deer answers that at both ends: an alloy hydraulic fork with a lockout and 80mm of travel at the front, and a coil shock at the back. Lock the fork for smooth pavement and you are not bobbing away your range. Open it on a rocky path and the wheels track the ground instead of skipping across it.

ONE SIZE, FOUR COLOURS
One 16 inch step through frame on 20 inch wheels, which Magicycle lists for riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2. The low step and the small wheels make it the easy Deer to mount, park and lift, at 83 lb with the battery in.
Dawn Yellow, Pearl White, Space Gray or Sierra Blue. Every colour ships with the rack, fenders, lights, bell and kickstand already in the box.

180mm Hydraulic Discs
Hydraulic disc brakes on 180mm rotors at both ends, with a motor cutoff built into the levers.

Questions before buying
What is the difference between the Deer and the Deer 2.0?+
This is the original Deer: a 750W motor with a 1500W peak, a cadence sensor, a Shimano 7 speed, a half twist throttle and an estimated 100 miles of range, on 20 inch wheels. The Deer 2.0 steps up to a 1000W motor with an 1800W peak, switchable torque and cadence sensors, an 8 speed, a thumb throttle and an estimated 120 miles, and comes in 20 or 26 inch. Same frame family, same 52V 20Ah battery, same 450 lb payload.
How fast does it go?+
Magicycle ships the Deer set to 20 MPH as a Class 2 bike. It can be unlocked to 28 MPH on pedal assist, which makes it Class 3, from the display settings. Check what your state and your local paths allow before you unlock it.
What does the cadence sensor feel like?+
A cadence sensor adds a set amount of power as soon as the pedals turn, so assist arrives like a switch rather than in proportion to how hard you push. You pick the level, 1 to 7, and Magicycle lets you set the speed ratio of each level from 1 to 100 percent on the display.
Will it fit me?+
Magicycle recommends the 20 inch Deer for riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2. It is a 16 inch step through frame on 20 x 4 inch tires, so the standover is low and the saddle sits close to the ground. If you are taller than 6 foot 2, the Deer 2.0 in 26 inch runs to 6 foot 8.
Do I need full suspension on an electric bike?+
Magicycle’s own answer is to look at the ground you ride most. If your trails are rough, rocky, rooty or steep, full suspension is worth it: more traction, more control and more line choices. On smooth pavement you can lock the front fork out.
How long does the battery take to charge?+
Four to seven hours on the included 3.0A fast charger. Magicycle estimates up to 100 miles from a full 52V 20Ah charge, and real range always depends on rider weight, terrain, assist level and weather.
Can I ride it in the rain?+
Magicycle rates the bike IPX6 and the controller IPX8, so rain and wet roads are fine. Heavy storms and standing water are not, and Magicycle says not to stay out long in heavy rain.
