The Birch Direwolf is not a trail bike with a motor bolted on. It is a ground-up hunting electric fat tire bike engineered for the places maps do not cover. Is the Birch Direwolf good for steep backcountry terrain?
Yes. The 1000W BAFANG mid-drive motor with 160Nm of torque is built for serious elevation. Mid-drive motors work through your gears, which means the harder the climb, the more you can use your drivetrain to help the motor. On steep, loose backcountry grades this combination outperforms hub-drive systems in the same class.
How far can the Birch Direwolf go on a single charge?
Up to 85 miles on pedal assist and 45 miles on throttle only. The 1200Wh battery is one of the largest available on a production hunting e-bike. Real-world range depends on terrain, assist level, and total load — but even fully loaded on throttle, 45 miles covers most backcountry hunting loops with margin.
Can the Direwolf carry a full deer harvest?
The 400 lb payload capacity is designed for exactly that use case. A dressed deer plus your gear and a standard rider typically falls within that window. Use a proper game carrier or cargo system rated for the load and secure everything before riding.
What is the difference between a mid-drive and hub-drive hunting e-bike?
Hub motors sit in the wheel and push from one fixed gear ratio. Mid-drive motors sit at the cranks and work through your entire cassette. On technical terrain with a load, mid-drive gives you the ability to drop gears and multiply torque. For backcountry hunting with hills, this is a meaningful advantage.
