Full Manufacturer Backing: State Bicycle Co.
Every bike we sell carries State Bicycle Co.’s own Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects, from the date you receive it. It covers the original purchaser and is not transferable.

Standard coverage, on every bike:

  • 5 years, frame and fork: steel, aluminium and titanium frames and forks.
  • 1 year, carbon frame and fork: extended to 2 years under ProBuild, below.
  • 1 year, components: non-consumable parts — crankset, pedals, bars, stem, seatpost, wheels, hubs and carbon forks.
  • 18 months, eBike system: motor, electronics and battery.

ProBuild: optional, free, and worth doing
ProBuild is not something you buy and it is not required for your warranty to be valid. It is an upgraded tier State unlocks when any professional bike shop assembles the bike and you register it with State within 30 days of delivery. Your local shop counts.

  • Carbon frames and forks go from 1 year to 2 years.
  • Priority claim review, ahead of unregistered bikes.
  • Free or discounted shipping on approved warranty parts.
  • Discounted replacement pricing for up to 5 years, even when the damage is a crash rather than a defect.

What is not covered
Normal wear and tear on any bike: tires, tubes, chains, brake pads, grips, bar tape, saddles, spokes, and paint or cosmetic finish. Nor is crash and impact damage, improper assembly or adjustment, lack of maintenance, modifications, or incompatible parts. Shop labour is the rider’s responsibility under either tier. RAW finish steel frames are not covered against rust — that is the finish behaving as intended.

Hassle-free registration
Don’t sweat the paperwork. Email your proof of assembly and order details to support@belcopia.com and our team will handle the registration with State for you, so the ProBuild tier is active before you need it. You will need your serial number, which is engraved on the underside of the bottom bracket shell.

Klunker

Klunker Overview

The State Bicycle Co. Klunker is a 27.5 inch steel cruiser built on the shape people were bombing fire roads on in the seventies. A 42T crank drives a 22T coaster cog, so there is one gear, no shifters and no derailleur hanging off the back to bend.

You stop by pedalling backwards. That means no levers, no cables and nothing to adjust, which is why the cockpit is just a 30 inch BMX style V-bar with a 7 inch rise. This one is Black and Metallic, on 2.3 inch WTB knobbies with Vans grips.

It weighs 30.4 lb, one size fits riders 5 foot 4 to 6 foot 2, and the steel frame and fork carry a 5 year warranty. Skip it if you want gears or hand brakes. Everyone else: there is a bottle opener on the frame.

Nothing to go wrong

No gears, no cables, no derailleur and no brake pads to wear through. A steel frame and fork with a 5 year warranty, 36 hole BMX style rims, and a coaster brake that has been the same simple mechanism for a century.

One size fits riders 5 foot 4 to 6 foot 2, and you set your height at the 25.4mm seatpost rather than by choosing a frame.

ONE GEAR, AND YOU STOP BY PEDALLING BACKWARDS

A 42T crank turns a 22T coaster style cog. One gear, geared for rolling rather than racing, with no shifter, no cable and no derailleur to knock out of line.

The brake lives inside the rear hub. Pedal backwards and it bites. No pads to wear out, no lever, nothing to bleed and nothing to adjust.

A 30 INCH BMX V-BAR

The bar is a BMX style V-bar, 30 inches across with a 7 inch rise. It puts you upright and gives you leverage to steer a fat tire at walking pace.

With no brake levers and no shifters there is nothing else on it. Grips, bar, and a retro leatherette saddle behind.

Questions before buying

How do the brakes work?

It is a coaster brake, so you pedal backwards to stop. There is no lever, no cable and nothing to adjust or bleed. If you have not ridden one since childhood it takes about a block to get used to, and then you stop thinking about it.

What size is it?

One size fits all. State lists it for riders 5 foot 4 to 6 foot 2. The seatpost is 25.4mm, so height is set at the saddle rather than by picking a frame size.

Is there really a bottle opener on the frame?

Yes, fitted to the frame at the factory. It is the detail everyone notices first.

Can I fit a bigger tire?

State lists the maximum as 2.3 inch by 27.5 for this colourway. Riders have fitted 2.4 inch, but fitment varies with the wheel and the tire brand, so State does not guarantee it.

Is it a single speed?

Yes. A 42T crank drives a 22T coaster style cog, geared for cruising rather than climbing or speed. One gear, no shifters, no derailleur to knock out of line.

What is the warranty?

State gives the steel frame and fork a 5 year warranty against manufacturing defects. We are an authorized dealer, so it is State’s own warranty, not a third party plan.

Just what the State Bike Doctor ordered. Love the big fat tires, cool look. Wish I could order some backup breaks. That coaster scares me on big downhills

Great bike to bomb around

I got the bike back in November 2025 (it's now sept 26) It seems to be the one a grab most and ride. What I've changed is the seat, upgraded to a brooks c67 & alum seatpost, vittoria mezcal tires, I used a front rack on the back as I've found it fit the burger and fryes to take back home. pedals are a rock brothers alum. I did add a masterlink. I really haven't done much maintance other then oil the oil the chain with rock and roll lube (i've already worn the chain 1/2 way down! Today I cleaned and waxed (I've done that to other bikes) Makes a big difference, but I'd prefer to wax new chains from the beginning. I also relubed the rear hub when it felt like there was a catch in the hub when riding..I'm not sure how many miles I have on it, but it's a ton!

Excellent service and even better products

From Arizona to the middle of the border city in Canada Saskatchewan!! It was Super simple to put together! I’ve wanted a bike like this since I was a boy. Now that I finally own one, it feels even better than I imagined. The black-and-silver State Bicycle Co. Klunker is tough, stylish, ridiculously fun, and dead simple. First ride and I’m already looking forward to the next hundred.

Highly recommended!

Black And Blue Is More Than A Bruise

Shown here is just another color option as opposed to the other posted builds. When I get on these full blown custom State Klunkers life is good. Worth every penny.

A Reason to Ride Once Again

After many years of infrequent riding, my State Klunker has provided the perfect inspiration to get me back out on the trail. It rode great out of the box and it has graciously accepted the upgrades that I have been able to afford so far. I look forward to many magical miles in our future.

Sick bike bad warranty.

I was a bike mechanic for 10 years but am not allowed to build my own single speed coaster brake bike and still get a warranty on a frame. It’s a sick bike perfect for cruising with the family.

Perfect Multi-use Bicycle! Fast shipping, easy to assemble, very comfortable, excellent design, well built, good components, great price. I’m 63 and wanted more comfort and versatility than a diamond frame bike provides. I ride the mostly flat to mild hill streets in a busy city of 60,000 population out in the desert southwest. Plenty of trails nearby too, from easy to deadly. Also wanted a grocery getter/errand runner that wasn’t complicated and was fast on the streets. This bike does it all. I mounted Maxxis Hookworms 2.5” tires and it rides like a skinny tire road bike now, FAST. Those tires at 65 psi are hard as a rock. I’m 6’0”/220 lbs and the rear tire barely bulges under my weight with 20-30 lbs of groceries. I will build a set of wheels for the Maxxis Vigilantes that came with it and use those on the moderate trails, but the Hookworms are fine for exercise trails and crossing vacant lots. NOTE: Please run a sealant in your tubes; saves a LOT of headaches! I use Orange Seal, works great! I also replaced the seat, which was too narrow for my aging butt, with the broken-in Brooks B67 off my diamond frame bike, and I added an Ibera rear rack for use with canvas saddle bag panniers for groceries. Works like a charm. NOTE: The bike has no dropout holes for a rack, but seat stay lugs are present. I drilled and tapped one hole in each rear dropout for mounting the rack. Also, with cloth saddle bags, I chose the Ibera rack for disc brakes because it mounts about an inch off the dropout with a spacer, moving it further away from the wheel by about an inch on each side. Keeps the cloth bags out of the spokes when riding them empty. ALSO NOTE: Drilling the rear dropout voids the warranty, but it’s void anyway if you assemble the bike yourself. I wasn’t going to pay $50 to a shop to do such a simple assembly. If you’re tool-less and clue-less on such matters, have a shop assemble your bike. After that, you have to jump through some paperwork loops to properly register your bike for warranty; check the SBC website for warranty details. I highly recommend this bike as there is nothing like it on the market. For a multi-use bike, you can’t beat it. With a little seat/tire tweaking and maybe a rack if needed, you can make it your own perfect ride.

State Klunker Purchased the moment I saw it and haven’t looked back! Absolutely love the bike, tough enough for taking the off-road route to the brewery and smooth enough for the road back home. Had an issue with a missing part, but the State customer service team did not disappoint. 10/10 would buy again. Thanks State!

I've only put 100 miles on it so far, but it has been awesome. It bunny hops well, bump jumps great, and wheelies nicely. The gearing is super solid for a commuter. I've been using it for a 22-mile round trip to work on and off since I got it.
