State Bicycle Co. 4130 Trail Mountain Bike Raw Phosphate
4130 Chromoly 12-Speed Hardtail Mountain Bike, 130mm Fork.
"A Real Trail Hardtail. RockShox Fork. $1,499.99."
The State Bicycle Co. 4130 Trail is a hardtail mountain bike built around a double butted 4130 chromoly frame, a 65 degree head angle, and a genuine RockShox fork. At this price most bikes ship with a budget fork on thin stanchions. This one runs the Psylo Silver RC with 130mm of travel on 35mm uppers.
Boost spacing, a UDH rear end, internal dropper routing and a threaded bottom bracket mean this steel mountain bike is built to be lived with and upgraded, not replaced. It climbs on an 11 to 50t Deore drivetrain and stops on Tektro hydraulics with 180mm rotors.
"Steel is the honest choice for a hardtail at this price. It takes trail chatter out of your hands and forearms in a way aluminum does not, and it survives rock strikes that would dent a lighter frame. Pair that with a threaded bottom bracket and a universal hanger and you have a bike a shop can keep running for a decade."
BUILT FOR RIDERS WHO
- You want a real trail bike rather than a department store mountain bike, without spending three thousand dollars
- You ride singletrack on weekends and want a bike that also handles gravel, fire roads and rough commutes
- You would rather have a good fork and a plain frame than a fancy frame and a fork that dives
- You plan to add a dropper post later and want the internal routing already there
- You value parts you can service anywhere over proprietary standards
THE FORK IS THE STORY
RockShox Psylo Silver RC, 130mm Travel
The suspension fork is where budget hardtails usually give up. A soft coil, narrow stanchions, and no real damping. The 4130 Trail runs a RockShox Psylo Silver RC with 130mm of travel on 35mm upper tubes, a Solo Air spring and a Motion Control damper.
That combination is what lets you point the bike down something steep without the front end flexing or diving. The wider stanchions add steering precision under braking, and the damper keeps the fork settled instead of pogoing through repeated hits.
PROGRESSIVE TRAIL GEOMETRY
65 Degree Head Angle, Built to Grow
A slack 65 degree head angle with a long front centre keeps the bike calm when the trail steepens, while a 74.4 degree seat angle keeps you over the pedals on climbs. It is stable without feeling sluggish in corners.
The frame is ready for the upgrades riders actually make: a 31.6mm seat tube with internal routing for a dropper post, Boost hub spacing, a UDH hanger, a threaded 73mm BSA bottom bracket, and triple bottle cage mounts on the downtube for long days.
KEY FEATURES
Shimano Deore 12-Speed
M6100 shifter and rear derailleur with an 11 to 50t cassette. A wide enough range for steep climbs, and a groupset any shop can service.
Tektro Hydraulic Discs
HD-M275 two piston hydraulic brakes on 180mm rotors, front and rear. Consistent stopping power in the wet and on long descents.
Room For 2.6 Inch Rubber
It ships on WTB i30 TCS tubeless ready rims with WTB Trail Boss 2.4 inch tyres, and there is room to go wider. The frame clears 29 x 2.6 inch or 27.5 x 3.0 inch, the fork 29 x 2.6 inch. Tubeless valves are in the box.
Dropper Post Ready
A 31.6mm seat tube with internal cable routing, so fitting a dropper is a clean job rather than a workaround. State lists the travel that fits each size, from 125mm on X-Small up to 175mm on X-Large. The dropper post itself is not included.
Triple Bottle Cage Mounts
Threaded bosses set flush into the down tube, three cage positions in total, so bottles or a cargo cage bolt straight on without straps.
WHY THIS BUILD MATTERS
A Fork That Works
The RockShox Psylo Silver RC with 35mm stanchions and 130mm of travel is a genuine trail fork. It is the single biggest reason this rides like a real mountain bike rather than a hardtail shaped one.
Steel Absorbs the Trail
Double butted 4130 chromoly damps the high frequency chatter that leaves your hands numb on a long descent, and shrugs off the rock strikes that dent thinner aluminum.
Built to Be Upgraded
UDH, Boost spacing, a threaded bottom bracket and internal dropper routing. Every standard here is one your shop already stocks, so the bike grows with you instead of boxing you in.

Which size should I choose?
XS/S 38cm suits riders 5 feet 1 to 5 feet 5 with a 28 to 30 inch inseam. S/M fits 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 10 (31 to 32 inch). M/L fits 5 feet 10 to 6 feet 1 (32 to 33 inch). XL 46cm fits 6 feet 1 to 6 feet 5 (33 to 34 inch). The geometry chart above has the full numbers for every size.
What does the complete bike weigh?
Between 32 lb 3 oz and 32 lb 11 oz depending on size, per State's official spec sheet. That is normal for a steel hardtail with a real suspension fork, and the frame material is a large part of why it rides smoothly.
Can I fit a dropper post?
Yes, and the frame is designed for it. The seat tube is 31.6mm with internal cable routing. State specifies 125mm travel for XS/S, 150mm for S/M and M/L, and 175mm for XL.
How wide a tire can I run?
The frame clears 29 x 2.6 inch or 27.5 x 3.0 inch. The fork clears 29 x 2.6 inch. It ships on WTB Trailboss 29 x 2.4 inch tubeless-ready tyres with valves included.
Is it ready to ride out of the box?
No. It ships partially unassembled and needs the crank and wheels installed, the fork set up with the steerer tube cut to length, plus derailleur indexing and limit screw adjustment. Professional assembly is strongly recommended for a suspension bike.
