Magicycle Ocelot Pro Overview
The Magicycle Ocelot Pro is a step through fat tire electric bike built around range. A 750W geared hub motor peaks at 1500W with 100Nm of torque, and the 52V 20Ah battery, 1040Wh, is good for up to 100 miles by Magicycle’s estimate.
It is a hardtail: a hydraulic lockout fork with 80mm of travel at the front, 20 x 4 inch fat tires, 180mm hydraulic discs and a Shimano 7 speed. One size, for riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2, at 73 lb with the battery in and rated to carry 450 lb.
Built around the battery
Magicycle forms the down tube with a multi cavity process and a 4 to 5mm wall, against the 3mm it says is usual, so the step through frame stays stiff with the battery inside it. The battery box has two locks: one against theft, one against falling out on rough road.
A 20 inch 6061 aluminium frame, a colour display with a USB port, integrated front and brake lights. Magicycle backs the frame, battery, motor, controller and display for two years.
LOW STEP, LONG RANGE
The frame drops low enough to step into, and Magicycle quotes 286mm of ground clearance, so shorter riders get both feet down. The saddle adjusts to fit riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2 on the one frame.
The 52V 20Ah battery sits inside the down tube rather than on top of it, which keeps the weight low and centred. Magicycle estimates up to 100 miles from a charge on pedal assist, and 4 to 6 hours to fill it on the 3A charger.

THE COCKPIT
A colour LCD in the middle of the bar shows speed, assist level and battery, charges a phone over USB, and lets you set the speed ratio of each of the 7 assist levels from 1 to 100 percent.
A half twist throttle sits on the right, which works on its own or on top of pedal assist. Both brake levers cut the motor the moment you pull, and a pull on either one lights the brake light.

Lockout Suspension Fork
An alloy hydraulic fork with 80mm of travel, adjustable and lockable for pavement.

180mm Hydraulic Discs
Hydraulic disc brakes on 180mm rotors at both ends, with a motor cutoff in the levers.

Questions before buying
How far does it go on a charge?+
Magicycle estimates up to 100 miles from the 52V 20Ah battery, and that is a best case pedal assist figure. Rider weight, hills, headwind, cold, tire pressure and how much throttle you use all bring it down. A full charge takes 4 to 6 hours on the included 3.0A charger.
How fast does it go?+
Magicycle ships the Ocelot Pro set to 20 MPH as a Class 2 bike. It can be unlocked to 28 MPH from the display settings, which makes it Class 3. Check what your state and your local paths allow before you unlock it.
Will it fit me?+
Magicycle recommends it for riders from 4 foot 10 to 6 foot 2. The step through frame sits low, Magicycle quotes 286mm of ground clearance, and the saddle adjusts to suit. One frame size.
Can I use the throttle in pedal assist mode?+
Yes. Magicycle gives it three modes: throttle only, pedal assist, and pedal only through the 7 speed. You switch between them on the go.
Why does Magicycle make a point of the down tube?+
Magicycle says it forms the Ocelot Pro down tube with a multi cavity oil injection process and a 4 to 5mm wall, where it says the industry norm is a single cavity at 3mm. The point is a stiffer step through frame with the battery hidden inside it, less handlebar shake and a steadier rear wheel downhill.
Can I ride it in the rain?+
Magicycle rates the battery and motor IPX6 and the controller IPX8, so rain and wet roads are fine. Heavy storms and standing water are not, and Magicycle says not to stay out long in heavy rain.
