  • 2 years, battery, motor and controller: covered against manufacturing defects. Battery damage from the wrong charger, water or improper storage is excluded.
  • 1 year, other original parts: fork, handlebar, seat post, chain, derailleur, brake levers, sensor, throttle, lights, display, rims and charger.
  • Not covered: wear items such as tires, tubes, brake pads, cables, grips, chain and spokes, and damage from accidents, misuse or unauthorized repair.

Vanpowers UrbanFold Overview

The Vanpowers UrbanFold is a folding fat tire electric bike: a 500W rear hub motor that peaks at 1000W with 55 N.m of torque, a 48V 10.4Ah battery, 20 x 4 inch tires and suspension at both ends. Pedal assist runs to 22 MPH and there is a throttle.

The frame hinges in the middle and the handlebar stem folds down, so it stows at home, under a desk or in a trunk. Two colours, one size.

Built to be lived with

A foldable aluminium alloy frame with a central hinge and locking lever, a folding handlebar stem and a quick release seat post. Front suspension fork and a rear shock, an upright riding position and a wide dual spring saddle.

A backlit LCD control panel on the bar, a front light built in, disc brakes front and rear, and a 264 lb recommended maximum load. The frame, battery, motor and controller are covered for two years.

A central hinge with a locking lever folds the frame in half, and the handlebar stem folds down over it. The seat post drops on a quick release. Unfolded it measures 75.2 x 24.8 x 43.3 inches on a 46.1 inch wheelbase.

That is what separates it from the other Vanpowers fat tire bikes: it goes where a full size bike cannot be left, which for a lot of city riders is the whole point.

500 WATTS, 1000 AT PEAK, THREE ASSIST LEVELS

The rear hub motor is rated at 500W and peaks at 1000W with 55 N.m of torque. Three levels of pedal assist run to 22 MPH, a throttle moves the bike without pedalling, and a 7 speed drivetrain lets you set your own cadence.

The 48V 10.4Ah battery holds 499.2Wh. Vanpowers states up to 21.7 miles of range, and a 54.6V 2A charger refills it in about 5 to 6 hours.

Questions before buying

How does it fold?

The frame hinges in the middle on a locking lever and the handlebar stem folds down. The seat post drops on a quick release. Unfolded it is 75.2 inches long, 24.8 wide and 43.3 tall; Vanpowers has not published the folded size.

How far does it go on a charge?

Vanpowers states up to 21.7 miles from the 48V 10.4Ah battery. Hills, rider weight, assist level and throttle use all shorten that, so treat it as a short commute bike rather than a long range one.

How fast is it?

Up to 22 MPH on pedal assist, by Vanpowers’ spec table. There is a throttle as well. Check your local rules on assisted speed before you ride.

What size rider does it fit?

One size, with a quick release seat post and an upright riding position. Vanpowers has not published a rider height range for the UrbanFold, so ask us if you are at either end of the scale.

What is the warranty?

Vanpowers covers the frame, battery, motor and controller for two years and the other original parts for one year, against manufacturing defects. Wear items such as tires, brake pads, chain and spokes are not covered. We are an authorized dealer, so it applies.
